THE REMEDIATION NATION TOUR

Operation Risk Management for Remediation Executives

THE ENFOS EXPERIENCE IS GOING ON THE ROAD

The ENFOS Experience is going on tour to visit The Remediation Nation in its native habitat. In 2014 and 2015, we will be holding regional one day events around the world. These events will take the place of the annual two-day user conference. Just like our previous conferences, these one-day events will be focused on key strategic issues faced by remediation executives, but will place more emphasis on regional needs.

Guests will be invited by ENFOS, but please do not hesitate to request more information if you are interested in attending. Our first regional event in April 2014 (Washington D.C.) was a major success.

THEME OF THE TOUR: OPERATIONAL RISK MANAGEMENT

Operational risk is “the risk of loss resulting from inadequate or failed internal processes, people and systems, or from external events.”[1] For industry remediation executives, their projects and portfolios are the result of risk events that have already occurred whether that be a new incident, new discovery, acquired liability, legal action, or property transaction. Therefore, the remediation executive and overall business function is charged with mitigating the effects of the initial risk event and controlling the possible secondary and residual impacts. Additionally, the Black Swan (catastrophic surprise events that can strike without warning) is alive and well when it comes to environmental incidents.

WHY RISK MANAGEMENT IS KEY TO SUCCESSFUL REMEDIATION

  • Proactively mitigating risks that could negatively impact core value drivers keeps organizations ahead of future woes.

  • Regulatory audits (both internal and external) continue to rise in scrutiny each year.

  • Subsurface contamination can be a high risk condition and remediation projects are fraught with uncertainty.

  • Operational risk is increasingly seen as the responsibility of each individual, rather than a centralized function.

  • Best-in-class organizations take an enterprise view of risk management and value information as a strategic asset.

2014 SPONSORS

How was the ENFOS Experience last year?

For two days in September 2013, over 100 Environmental Remediation professionals gathered at the St. Regis Hotel in San Francisco to learn and share cutting edge practices as they related to The Art of Operational Excellence. Keynote presenters were Stella Karnis, Senior Manager of Environmental Affairs for the Canadian National Railway Company and the esteemed environmental attorney, Larry Schnapf of Schnapf LLC. The conference program included roundtable sessions facilitated by industry experts such as Adam Boettner of Boeing, Bill Brochu of Sunoco, Heather Campbell of ConocoPhillips, Rick Hager of Total RETIA USA, and Nancy Somogyi of Canadian National Railway. Participants also attended ENFOS software training sessions and panel discussions. Besides the many conference sessions, the Remediation Nation held a customer and sponsor golf outing at the famous TPC Harding Park course and all attendees had the opportunity to enjoy a dinner cruise on the San Francisco bay.

The next ENFOS Experience for all of the Remediation Nation will take place in San Francisco in 2015.
